Facilitate a flexible AV system: The multi-function Q-SYS capabilities bring flexibility for variety of events and uses, including hybrid and collaborative training programmes and live streaming.

“When I walk round the building, I see something that is greater than what the vision was. The AV is very subtle and works really well.”

The project at a glance

The challenge

The Royal College of Physicians and Spaces at The Spine needed an integrated and flexible system to cater for diverse needs across multiple floors, from delivering hybrid education programmes to monitoring examinations.

Technology was to be an integral part of The Spine and was designed into the fabric of the building. The scale of project required a fully networked AV systemto deliver audio, video and content across the building with minimal cabling.

When installation began, Q-SYS control elements had never been used to the extent the project demanded. The Spine’s requirement to distribute the AV between spaces across their network was far from the standard, out-of-the-box solution.

Our Solution

The fully networked nature of the Q-SYS platform was fundamental to the success of the project. Every device is handled via redundant Q-SYS Cores, allowing for flexible and reliable AV throughout the building.

The NV-32-H encoders provide the ability to send and receive content from anywhere in the building over the network, minimising cabling and integrating the AV into the design of the building.

On the 11th floor, in the assessment space, Q-SYS provides AV for 28 medical consultation rooms, the lift lobby, the patient holding room, the exam corridors and the reception area. A central control desk allows examiners to speak to the students, receive audio from all or individual rooms, and send audio to each area. Additionally, Q-SYS handles bespoke clock software to show examination timings, and CCTV-style video and audio monitoring are achieved with 180-degree ceiling-mounted cameras in each room.

Solution components

  • Core 110f processor
  • NV32-H AVoIP encoder
  • TSC-55W-G2 touch panel
  • TSC-116W-G2-BK touch panel
  • NC series PTZ cameras

The result

The fully integrated solution installed at The Spine allows for great flexibility, and facilitates a variety of event uses, including hybrid and collaborative training programmes and live streaming.

Technology is an integral part of the building’s design, and the networked approach enabled by Q-SYS allows for an incredibly intuitive and functional system which is subtly implemented for the everyday user.
